This book, written by John Beatty, CG®, documents a project that began with the quest to find the English origins of Joseph Vick, a seventeenth century settler in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, who likely originated in Gloucestershire or some neighboring county. That search revealed a tantalizing clue: On 18 October 1669, Joseph Fick [sic] and Elizabeth Fick [sic] were both apprenticed in Bristol to serve four years under Roger Dixon in Virginia.  If this is the correct Joseph with perhaps his sister Elizabeth, they have not been found after comprehensive searches of Bristol, Gloucestershire, and Herefordshire parish registers and probate records. They may have come from a parish where the records are missing during the key period of the 1640s and 1650s.
