Vick Family Annual Meeting in Suffolk, Virginia

Saratoga Springs, UT – May 31, 2017:  Since Joseph Vick first appeared in the records of the English Colony of Virginia and was deeded 50 acres by Hodges Council at the Beaver Dam Swamp in the Isle of Wight County on December 20, 1675 much has changed for his family. Joseph would have never thought that someday he would have over 20,000 descendants in America.

The Vick Annual Reunion will include interested community, historical researchers and Vick descendants (Joseph Vick Family of America) that will gather in Suffolk, Virginia on 23-25 of June. Those attending will be educated on Vick genealogy based on a book, Joseph Vick of Lower Parish Isle of Wight County, Virginia and His Descendants, and newly found DNA test results.

Friday June 23rd -3-5 PM Workshop - Set up your own Relative Finder, presenter Mr. Gailen Vick

5:30 PM Annual dinner

6:30 PM Presentation by - K.T. Vick, Frank Vick & Barbara Tierney in a keynote presentation on the Colonization of the Vick family of Virginia and a social retrospective of colonial life. Historical observations of what it was like to live during the 17th and 18th centuries in colonial Virginia, including clothing, music and art.

Saturday June 24th - 1PM Speaker: DNA Research, Presentation by Mr. James Larry Vick; Detail information & discussion on the ABLETT & Vick family lines. Larry will give background about the Y chromosome that will help all in attendance understand how these two families share a common ancestor.

4:30 PM Dinner/Silent Auction 

5:30 PM Speaker – Mr. Bruce L. Turner (Great-great-great grandson of Nat Turner) lecturer and oral historian will present the history and background of Nat Turner. “Only three days of Nat Turner’s life were involved in the insurrection. He was extremely intelligent, a preacher, had a family and had deep convictions.”

6:00 PM Speaker – Mr. John V. Quarstein an award-winning historian, preservationist, and author. Director of the USS Monitor Center at The Mariners’ Museum and Park in Newport News, Virginia. The author of 15 books,  winner of the 2012 Henry Adams Prize for excellence in historical literature.. Mr. Quarstein will present the history and impact the Nat Turner Insurrection had on the Vick Family that lived in Virginia in the early 1800's. This slave insurrection was the largest in American history and resulted in almost 300 deaths. Mr. Quarstein will deliver a lecture about the causes, events and impacts of Nat Turner's Rebellion.
